About Me

You not going to get the full blurb here; if you really want to know you’ll have to contact me directly.  However:

I’m an amateur photographer and have been since 2001/02.  I started with film with a second hand Samsung compact, then a Minolta 404i/505i before shifting over to Canon with an EOS 30 & 33.  I did also, for a while, have a Zena Bronica ETRS.  When I was being good, my father would lend me his Fuji GX 617, which is a lovely medium format panoramic camera.

I shifted to digital in 2008 with a Canon EOS 5D and am now running a Mark III.  I’m in the process for saving up for a Mark V when it comes out; this is primarily the aim of this website.

I used to live in the UK, but have recently moved to New Zealand and am currently living in Auckland.  I used to live here New Zealand in 2001/2002 and it was here that I first really got a camera out.

Having both a proper job and a family has meant for limited time to develop either my catalogue or skillset.  Now though, with the kids getting older and showing a faint interest in photography themselves, I find I have a bit more time and inclination.

I don’t really have a focus for my photography; but I do have areas of interest.  Some of this you’ll see on this website, some you won’t:

  • Aurora: I’ve spent about 12 years chasing the Northern Lights, but it was only with my last 3-4 trips that I had any real joy.  Prior to that I was hamstrung by technical incompetence and poor weather.
  • Travel: I’ve done quite a bit or travelling and walking over the years.  This lends itself to a different sort of photography, especially when travelling with family and not being able to stay in one spot for the ‘right light.’
  • People: I’m the sort of person that you want to bring to a family gathering, I like taking candid photos of people.  For obvious reasons, these photos aren’t on here as I don’t have people permission to sell their image.
